I’m Dreading This Flight! How Can I Enjoy It?

We give props to the Wright Brothers and all, but flying can be a stressful ordeal. The guy next to you snores. The kid behind you is kicking your seat. The flight attendant runs over your foot with the cart. It sometimes seems like we’re buying tickets to sit in a torture chamber for 10 hours.

It doesn’t have to feel that way.

How to relax and enjoy a flight

There are many ways to make your flight enjoyable, even if it’s from New York to China. Here are a few tried and true tips for happy air travel:

  1. First and foremost, if you get motion sickness easily or you just want to be safe, add a few drops of Motioneaze on the head behind each ear before flying.
  2. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Planes are usually a little chilly, so bring a sweater along, but keeping your air vent open is also a good idea. The circulated air can help keep queasiness away.
  3. Be hydrated. High altitudes bring dry conditions. It’s easy to get dehydrated, so drink plenty of water before a flight.
  4. Blood clots are never good. Do get out of your seat a few times to make things a little more comfortable throughout the flight. Maybe take a short walk along the aisle when you have a chance or rotate your ankles several times periodically in your seat to get the blood flowing.
  5. If you have a child behind you, you’ll probably have more room to recline your seat. Check first through. You don’t want to ruin someone else’s flight by making your own a little better.
  6. Bring some activities on with you in your carry-on. These could include books, magazines, music, a writing pad, puzzles, and more. Be careful if you get motion sickness, though. These activities might hurt more than they help. Of course, that is when having Motioneaze on-hand comes in handy.
  7. Sleep. If you have room bring a pillow or get one of the things you see in the in-flight magazines; you know, that giant lap pillow you can just lean your body forward on. I’ve always wanted to try that thing.
  8. Bring some gum to chew on. I prefer sugarless. Chewing sugary gum usually upsets my stomach.
  9. Do you have an iPad or tablet? Downloading your favorite movies and making sure everything is fully charged before the flight can make all the difference.
  10. Try to book a window seat if you’re flying alone. You get the extra room for resting your head, and you get to enjoy the view….if there is one.

Have a great flight!
